Samsung Semiconductor CEO Kye Hyun Kyung posted on LinkedIn today, announcing the establishment of Samsung Semiconductor AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) computing laboratories in the United States and South Korea.

The lab, led by former Google developer Dong Hyuk Woo, is dedicated to developing a new type of semiconductor that can meet the future needs of general artificial intelligence computing.

The AGI Computing Lab will initially develop chips for large language models (LLMs), focusing on reasoning and serving applications. In order to develop chips that can significantly reduce the power consumption required to run LLMs, Samsung Semiconductor is re-examining all aspects of chip architecture, including memory design, lightweight model optimization, high-speed interconnects, and advanced packaging.

Samsung plans to release new versions of the AGI Computing Lab’s chip design in a rapid iteration manner to provide more powerful performance support for the growing models while consuming only a small amount of power and cost.
